Invite people to work on your app

Give someone access to one app, and choose whether they can change it or only use it.

AuthAccount Updated 2026-10-03

An invitation gives one person access to one app. You choose the level when you send it, and you can change or remove it later. Only the app's owner can invite people; a person with edit access can work on the app but cannot invite anyone else.

The two levels

  • Edit lets someone open the app in the desk and work on it as you do, including asking the builder for changes and publishing a new version.
  • View lets someone use the published app. They can open it and work with it, but they cannot open it in the desk or change it.

The two levels are different in kind, not only in degree. A person with edit access helps you build the app; a person with view access uses it. Choose Edit for a colleague who will work on it with you, and View for someone who should use a private app without changing it.

The panel itself sets out the difference: View lets someone use the deployed app, while Edit lets them open it in the desk and work on it as you do, including using your connected accounts and adding to your balance.

Granting edit access asks you to confirm first. The confirmation says that editors can open the desk, change the app and its functions, publish it, and use the credentials you have connected to the app, and that you should only give it to someone you trust with the app and those credentials.

Invite someone

  1. Open the app in your desk and select Open Session.
  2. Choose the Settings tab, then Team in the menu.
  3. Enter the person's email address and choose View or Edit.
  4. Select Add.

If the email belongs to an existing AppHandle account, the person has access immediately, and the app appears on their desk under Shared with you marked as Can edit or Can view. If the email has no AppHandle account yet, AppHandle creates an invitation link. The link is emailed when email delivery is available, and it is copied for you so you can send it yourself. An invitation link lasts seven days.

Invitations that have not been accepted yet appear under Pending invites in the same panel. You can copy the link again or cancel the invitation there.

Change or remove access

The Team panel lists everyone with access. Change a level with the selector beside a name, or use the remove control to take access away. Removing access takes effect immediately, and the person can no longer open the app. Their saved records stay in the app.

The people who use your app

The Team panel is not the list of the people who use your app. Those are listed under Settings → App users, which also shows whether each one is blocked. Manage the people who signed up covers that list.

Keep a team roster

If you work with the same people often, add them once to your team so you do not have to remember their addresses. Open the account menu at the bottom of the desk sidebar by selecting your name, choose Team, and add them by email. When you invite someone to an app, the Team panel offers Assign from your team so you can pick a name instead of typing an address.

The team is a list you keep for convenience. Adding someone to your team gives them no access to any app by itself; access is granted one app at a time. The same is true in reverse: removing someone from your team does not take away any access you have already given them.
