Keep a copy of your app
Duplicate an app, download its project, or download the published site.
A copy is useful when you want to try something without risking the app you have, when you are about to delete an app, or when a developer needs the project outside AppHandle. There are three ways to take one, and each holds something different. All of them start from the app itself, so nothing you do here changes the app you copied.
Duplicate the app
Duplicating makes a new app in your account with the same files and the same handle functions as the original. You can edit the copy freely; the original stays as it is.
- Open the app from your Desk.
- On the app's page, find the Export & Clone card and select Duplicate app.
- AppHandle creates the copy and opens it in your Desk.
Inside a session you can do the same from Settings, then Project, then Duplicate app. The copy starts with a new name and an address of its own.
Download the project
Download project (.zip) saves the app's files to your computer. It is what to send a developer, or to keep for your own records.
You will find it on the Export & Clone card on the app's page, and in Settings, then Project, inside a session. A downloaded project is a file on your computer rather than a live app, so it cannot be loaded back into the same app here.
Download the published site
Download build (.zip) saves the files of the version you last published — the pages and everything they need to run — so the site can be hosted somewhere else. It is in Settings, then Project, and it needs a published version to work, so publish the app first.
What a copy does not bring
A copy is a fresh app, not a snapshot of everything the original had:
- Saved records. The entries your app has stored stay with the original.
- Credentials. Any key or password the app uses is filled in again; values are never copied.
- Connected accounts. A connected service belongs to your AppHandle account rather than to the app, so a copy does not include a connection of its own.
A downloaded copy is never updated afterwards, so it does not follow the changes you make here.
If a developer needs the project
The Project section inside a session (open Settings and choose Project) also shows where the app's project lives, with a link to open it where it is hosted and a control to copy its address. Beside it there is a Collaborators block where you can add a username to give that person access to the project.
