Go back to an earlier version

See the changes made to your app over time and return it to an earlier checkpoint.

Building Updated 2026-10-17

Every check-in the agent makes is saved as a checkpoint, so your app has a timeline of versions rather than a single current state. You can look back at that timeline, see what each change did, and return the app to an earlier point when a change did not work out. Restoring is safe: AppHandle saves the current state as a checkpoint first.

The timeline of changes

Open your app, select the Settings tab, then Checkpoints. Each entry is a save point, listed with the short description the agent gave it and the time it was made. The panel says it plainly: every check-in by the agent is a save point, and you can restore, compare, branch, or inspect any of them.

Checkpoints appear as the agent works, so there is nothing to switch on. A new app with no history yet shows an empty list.

Read what a change did

The controls beside a save point are small icons, and each one names itself when you point at it. The eye is View changes, and it opens the changes that save point contains. The arrow is Restore this checkpoint. The branch icon is Branch from here. The two arrows are Compare with current.

To look at two points together, select Compare — the one control written out in words — then choose one save point as A and another as B; the difference between them appears below the list. This is how you find the point where something started behaving differently.

Go back to an earlier version

  1. Find the save point you want to return to in Checkpoints.
  2. Point at the arrow beside that entry — it is titled Restore this checkpoint — and select it.
  3. Confirm Restore.

The app rebuilds to that version. Because the state you were on is saved as a checkpoint before the restore, you can return to it later the same way; the newer work is not lost.

Save a point yourself

Under Checkpoint now, type a short message — for example, "before redesigning the home page" — and select Save. It is worth doing before a large change you may want to undo.

Keep an alternative

If you want to try a different direction without giving up the current version, select the branch icon on a save point — Branch from here. A field appears underneath asking for a Branch name, for example redesign-home; type one and select Create. That starts a separate line of work, listed under Branches.

When you are happy with it, select Promote to main beside the branch and confirm with Promote.

Your conversation history

The change timeline is separate from your chat. The chat column keeps your five most recent requests and the agent's replies in view, and Show history at the top of it opens the whole conversation, older turns included. It is a record to refer back to; it does not change the app.

Messages here are copied the same way as in the chat column: point at one and a copy control appears beside its time.

Scroll up to read further back. Earlier messages load as you reach the top, and the messages you are reading stay where they are while the older ones are added above them, so you can keep going in one movement.
