Organise apps into workspaces
Group your apps into workspaces to keep the desk tidy, and move apps between them.
A workspace groups apps so the desk stays readable as you build more of them. Workspaces are a label on each app and nothing more: they change where an app is listed, not what it does, who can open it, or where it lives online.
The Default workspace
Apps that have not been placed in a workspace belong to the Default workspace. It is always present and always listed first, and it carries a default badge in the Workspaces dialog. New apps start there. You cannot rename or delete it, because it is where apps return when a workspace is removed.
Create a workspace
Any of these opens the Workspaces dialog:
- New workspace at the bottom of the sidebar's workspace list.
- Manage beside the Workspaces heading on the Overview.
- The settings control beside Workspace in an app's Details card.
Enter a name in the New workspace name box and select Add. Names can be up to 40 characters. The new workspace appears in the dialog straight away with its app count, and joins the sidebar once an app has been placed in it. Select Done to close the dialog.
A workspace you created can be renamed with the pencil control beside it, or deleted with the bin. Deleting a workspace never deletes its apps: they return to the Default workspace.
Move an app between workspaces
- Open the app from the desk by selecting its card or name.
- Find the Details card on the app's page.
- Open the Workspace dropdown and choose a workspace. Default workspace is the first option.
The app moves immediately, and the sidebar regroups it under the new workspace. Its address, data, and sharing are unaffected. If someone has been hired to work on the app, the workspace stays yours: it is not shown to them, and they cannot change it.
Where workspaces appear
The sidebar shows a group for the Default workspace and for any other workspace that holds at least one app, with the number of apps in it, and you can expand a group to open one of its apps. On the Overview, the Workspaces section lists at most three; selecting one shows that workspace's apps on their own.
Continue with Create your first app when you are ready to add another app to one.
